 Chinese Curriculum

Yew Chung International School of Beijing places great emphasis on the acquisition of the Chinese language (Mandarin), an increasingly important world language. In order to foster a deeper understanding of the language, students are also required to study Chinese culture. Students learn to read, write and speak fluently in Mandarin through curricula tailored for both native and non-native English speakers. These courses run from Kindergarten all the way through to Secondary School and help students attain a strong command of the Chinese language after two to three years.

 Character Education

The Character Education Programme at YCIS Beijing is a vital component across all year levels within the school. The programme focuses on developing students as individuals with good character and high moral standard. Positive character traits such as perseverance, kindness and diligence and respect are examples of these traits and are studied within Character Education assemblies and classes in the form of role-plays, analysis of common moral situations and project. Using such everyday situations and real stories, topics of personal and social development, character building, morality and ethics are combined with global perspectives. In addition, YCIS has its own charity, ‘Seeds of Hope’, a charity that builds schools for less fortunate children in rural areas of China. So far, 3 schools have been built to provide education opportunities to local migrant children. The schools are supported by YCIS and students and teachers visit every year. ‘Seeds of Hope’ fundraisers and events are organised and participated in by the whole YCIS community throughout the year. It is through serving the local community and having a charitable heart that the students who attend YCIS will grow up into not only future leaders, but leaders who care deeply about society.
