In response to the growing need for thrther quality educational provision, the Board of Governors has fully supported the development of an additional Primary and Secondary school providing opportunity for a greater number of children within the community to be part of the JESS experience. From September 2005 at the Arabian Ranches development, JESS opened an additional three form entry primary school from Foundation through to Year 6, together with a sixth form entry secondary school, initially for Years 7, 8 and 9. The secondary school offered a complete Key Stage 3 phase (Years 7 to 9) in September 2006, with Year 11 commencing in September 2008. From September 2009 JESS offered the International Baccalaureate Diploma programme following confirmation as an IB World School in March 2009. The buildings are modern and spacious. There are seven units of purpose-built classrooms, a large, well equipped multi-purpose hall/gymnasium, a PE studio, a music block, central library and ICT room. All children who can demonstrate a proficiency to successfully access the curriculum through the medium of English may be considered for entry. A Debenture system offering advantaged admission will operate to support the establishment of the schools, details of which may be found in the registration section of the prospectus. The school caters for English speaking children between the ages of 3 and 11 years. There are 32 classes, four in each year group, with maximum class sizes of 22 pupils. The school is staffed by UK-trained and qualified primary school teachers who are classroom based. In addition, there are full-time specialist teachers for ICT, physical education, music and Language Support. There are also part-time teachers of French, Arabic, Islamic Studies and maths. Two full-time Key Stage 1 class assistants and nine part-time Foundation and Key Stage 1 class assistants and a school nurse are also in attendance. |
