Learning Support Programme

Cairo American College (CAC) was founded in 1945 to provide an American-style education for children of American families. Fifty elementary school students made up the initial enrollment; kindergarten and secondary school sections were added before the school moved in 1955 to the former palace and grounds of Mohamed Ali Ibrahim. The land for the present campus was acquired with funds granted by the US government, and, in 1970, CAC moved to its present location in the Maadi suburb of Cairo.

CAC provides an American-style education for US citizens residing in Egypt as well as for students of other nationalities who wish to pursue an American educational curriculum. CAC seeks to provide its students with the knowledge, skills, and personal qualities needed for further education, continued growth, and participation in a global community. Strong emphasis is placed on core subjects. Included in the curriculum is the provision for the traditional academic core subjects, counseling, resource room support, the International Baccalaureate program, music, drama, art, and other programs which meet CAC's goals of providing the best education possible consistent with the school’s mission. CAC’s special needs program (K-12) is for the "mildly learning disabled" offering limited services. Applicants in need of special services are strongly urged to make inquiries far in advance to ensure that there is a match.

CAC is located on eleven acres. The instructional program takes place in eight buildings including a 520-seat theatre as well as outdoor spaces including two playing fields, playgrounds, an all-weather track, a heated swimming pool, and a multipurpose basketball/volleyball court. Two athletic facilities encompass gymnasia, a weight room, classrooms, and office and conference spaces. Two state of the art library/media center serves the entire campus, as do multiple computer labs located throughout the school. CAC has recently completed a major renovation project. Phase I – the construction of a new Elementary School completed in January 2010 and Middle School building completed in August 2012.

The school recruits highly talented and qualified administrators and teachers from the U.S. and from international or American schools overseas. Salaries and benefits are highly competitive, the objective being to recruit the best-trained faculty possible.

A non-profit organization, CAC is governed by an 9-member Board of Trustees.
