Classes are currently offered from Nursery to Year 13 (ages 2 ½ - 18). All classes are taught by UK-qualified, experienced teachers. Children follow the English National Curriculum tailored to an international perspective, and it is the school's intention to continue adding a year until grade 13 is reached. ISB offers IGCSE courses in grades 10 and 11 and AS-A levels in grades 12 and 13. Children benefit from an enriching and challenging experience as they follow a broad and balanced programme. ISB takes great pride in attending to individual learning needs. It aims to enable children of all abilities to realize their full potential and gain the sense of fulfillment that this may bring. It has a welcoming family atmosphere designed to develop the full range of 21st century skills, attitudes and knowledge. To promote quality teacher-student interaction, with high standards of classroom discipline and engagement, class sizes are small - around 14 pupils. All children are taught in large attractive classrooms, each with its own computer, Internet connection and Interactive Whiteboard. A separate multimedia lab gives opportunities for whole class ICT teaching. Music, drama and Art are an integral part of the curriculum and in all grades they are taught by specialist teachers. The main language of instruction is English. As the only school in the region to offer an international Anglophone education, ISB caters for local and expatriate children. It offers reassuring continuity for children who have previously attended international or English-speaking schools, whilst also providing an alternative for those who seek international Anglophone education as a key to future opportunities. A high priority is given to developing fluency in both English and French. An intensive English as a Second Language programme is provided for students with limited English; the school endeavours to give ESL students full access to the curriculum. French classes are streamed. In this subject first language students follow the French National curriculum whilst second language students follow an oral comprehension and verbal communication programme. Enriching residential trips, extra-curricular sports and clubs are available to all pupils. Past activities have included: skiing, tennis, athletics, swimming, rounders, chess, judo, dance, arts and crafts, football, hockey and sailing. |
