The International School of Bremen was established in 1998 to serve the international community of Bremen. The school occupies a purpose-built German School in the Schwachhausen area of Bremen close to the city center in a quiet residential area. Classes are taught in refurbished classrooms with appropriate furniture, books and materials. Classes are small and teachers are able to provide individual assistance.
The students range in age from 3 to 18 years and are placed in grades pre-school through grade 12. The students come from 35 different countries around the world.
The school is governed by a four-member Executive Board representing the corporate sponsors of the school. The Director is the chief executive officer of the school and makes all decisions for the school in conjunction with the Executive Board. The teachers are from the United States, Germany, India, UK, Canada and Australia, Spain, Belgium and South Africa. All of the teachers are certified according to the standards of their home countries. ISB offers an international curriculum drawn upon best practice with UK, USA, Australia and the host country, with all instruction in English except for foreign language classes. Specialist teachers provide instruction in music, physical education, art and language. The IGCSE is offered at Grade 10 level and the International Baccalaureate at the end of Grade 12. An ESL programme is offered with those students who need assistance with English. The school is non-selective - however, SEN support is limited.
