MIS creates within its students a spirit of responsibility for themselves and others in the school environment, the host country of Germany, and the global community. Founded in 1966, all parents are members of the MIS Association, a tax exempt, non-profit organization, which elects the Board of Directors. The academic programme of the school is designed to prepare students for the International Baccalaureate Diploma, a broad range of IGCSE exams and the College Board exams. A high school diploma is given on the successful completion of grade 12. The junior school follows the curriculum of the IBPYP. The IBMYP is offered in grades 6-10, and the IB Diploma in grades 11 and 12. The student body represents 51 countries, with students from United States, Great Britain and Germany being the most numerous. Ninety-five percent of the graduates go directly to university. The school calendar runs from late August to late June. There is a strong after-school curriculum of fine arts and sports. The school campus is on the grounds of Schloss Buchhof, near Starnberg, 20 km south of Munich. On 25 acres of land, the students benefit from modern and well-equipped facilities. MIS inspires students to be interculturally aware and achieve their potential within a stimulating and caring learning environment. MIS offers all three programmes of the International Baccalaureate Organisation (IBO) - International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme (IBPYP), International Baccalaureate Middle Years Programme (IBMYP), IB Diploma Programme (IBDP).
