School Introduction

ABOUT SAIS

SAIS, the professional school of international affairs within Johns Hopkins University, enrolls more than 500 full-time students in several degree programs at the Washington, D.C., campus. SAIS also has campuses in Bologna, Italy, and Nanging, China. SAIS attracts superior, highly motivated students from all over the world who are dedicated to mastering the practice of international relations. The renowned international studies faculty help students acquire both a critical framework for the analysis of international issues and specific professional skills in economics, foreign languages and regional studies. Since the school's founding in 1944, more than 12, 000 alumni have assumed leadership roles in the private and public sectors around the world - and more than 130 graduates have served as ambassasdors for their nations.

ESL Program Introduction

ESL at SAIS prepares international professionals and students to communicate effectively in academic and business environments. To complement formal daily morning language instruction, students attend afternoon class trips to meet with American policymakers, take part in weekly American studies seminars and visit cultural and political points of interest in Washington, D.C. Former participants have included diplomats, journalists, attorneys, executives and students from around the world.

English classes are held daily, Monday through Friday, from 9:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. Seminars and site visits average two afternoons per week from approximately 2 p.m. to 4 p.m.
