Serving the NATO community since 1958, the school was the first international school in Naples and has developed as an education service of intercultural cooperation and spirit. Overlooking the Bay of Naples and the isles of Nisida and Capri, the school offers a beautiful and safe environment. The student body is comprised of dependent children of NATO and diplomatic personnel, international business and local nationals, representing 17 nationalities. All teachers are English mother-tongue speakers; however, a robust program offering Italian language instruction is available for local national students preparing them for Italian State Examinations. Most teachers are certified in the United States and in other English-speaking countries, and many have advanced degrees. A dynamic English as a Second Language program is offered to accommodate the many students arriving from across Europe and other parts of the world who possess limited English skills. Intensive foreign language programs are also offered in Italian, French, and Spanish, fulfilling the desire that all students who graduate are multi-lingual. The curriculum is American and international in nature, offering a well-balanced classical and scientific education. The Montessori philosophy and techniques are also emphasized to ensure that each student reaches his or her potential. In support of the various nations represented, the school endeavors to satisfy the educational demands of individual national elements. Special education needs are fulfilled on an as-needed basis through singular arrangements. A full range of extra-curricular activities are available, including student government, Yearbook Committee sport, dance, arts, and music. Information technology is also emphasized as a research tool to augment traditional methods incorporating the Multi-Media Center and Smart Room. Classes meet from 0830 to 1515 with NATO and Italian holidays observed. Day care for children of all ages is offered before and after normal school hours. The Anglo-Italian School is Accredited and Guaranteed by The National Montessori Organization, Member of The American Montessori Society, Member of European Council of International Schools, Authorized and Recognized by MIUR (Italian Ministry of Education, Universities and Research) decree prot. AOODRCA 8843. Admission is based upon a screening interview, previous scholastic performances and the student's ability to profit from the range of programs offered. |
