It is considered to be a leading innovative school, recognized for its quality of education, well-rounded environment catering to all aspects of the students' needs, and its commitment to International education. The school’s academic program strives for “Academic Excellence” and covers the American and International Baccalaureate standards of learning. Upon graduation, students will receive the American Diploma or, for those who are highly motivated, the IB Diploma. JKIS is accredited by the Commission on International and Trans-Regional Accreditation (CITA) in alliance with the Western Association of School and Colleges (WASC). It was also awarded candidate status by the International Baccalaureate (IB) for the Primary Years Programme (PYP) and the Middle Years Programme (MYP), and is currently in the process of applying for the Diploma Programme (DP), with the goal being to offer the full IB Continuum Programme. The MYP authorization visit has been scheduled for June 2009, and JKIS is currently in the process of CIS accreditation with the team visit scheduled for October or November 2009. The school was built according to international specifications. It is fully equipped with security cameras, fire alarm system, intercoms and paging system. The classrooms are provided with Smart Boards, projectors and computers. The facilities include a covered pool, two large basketball courts, fully-equipped gymnasium, two computer labs, four science laboratories, three art rooms, two libraries, etc. Further expansion of the school building is in process. The school’s academic staff consists of qualified, experienced and dedicated teachers representing eighteen nationalities. The school provides maximum opportunities for continued professional development through IB workshops worldwide in addition to in-house workshops facilitated by IB Workshop Leaders. The school year starts in September and ends in June, with the school day running from 07: 30 to 15: 00 and a co-curricular program that extends until 4: 00pm. As further evidence of the school’s success, it has an extensive waiting list that exceeds 800 students, but in accordance with the school policy, a limited number of classes are maintained to ensure the quality of the educational programmes. |
