It is situated in Mafikeng, the capital city of the North West Province. The school, which is owned, managed and administered by a Governing Body, was established to serve the educational needs of the region and the international community living in Southern Africa. The secondary school offers a broad and balanced curriculum in Forms 1 and 2. Emphasis is placed on the acquisition of basic knowledge and skills. In Form 3 students opt to follow nine subjects including English, mathematics, one language and two science subjects. Students are entered for the University of Cambridge IGCSE, A-S and A-level examinations. Eight lessons of 35 minutes duration are provided Monday to Friday. Teaching staff have been recruited from all over the world. Many have higher degrees and are experienced teachers of the examination courses. The entire school can accommodate over 600 students, 450 boarders and 150+ day students. Fifty are accommodated in study bedrooms in each of the six boarding houses. Seventeen nationalities are represented in the school. The school has a three-term year beginning in January and ending after examinations in November. There is a minimum of 196 teaching days in the school year. A full games, activities and community service programme complements the academic curriculum. The school is accommodated in new buildings including well-equipped facilities for art, gymnastics, science, IT, technology and music. There is a large theatre accommodating 1,000 people, a library and a full range of sporting facilities. All students are interviewed and the applicant's current Head provides a confidential report. Academic, sporting, artistic and musical potential and a willingness to contribute to the life of the school are also taken into account. |
