St Martin's Preparatory School
St Martin's School is an independent, co-educational school especially valued by parents who seek for their children an academic environment in which Christian standards are reflected. Students of all faiths and denominations are admitted.
Pre-Preaparatory Phase
The Pre-Preparatory Phase introduces children to fundamental concepts that are central to successful learning in a secure adn relaxed environment.
Class sizes vary according to grade, and range from approximately 16 t 20 children per class. In our play rich environment, children use thier senses to discover new things and learn the many lessons they will need before formal education begins in Grade 1.
Our programme allows children to develop their creativity, enhance their communication skills and acquire social interaction abilities through play. It is at this developmental stage that children learn about themselves. The perceptual skills that form the foundation for further learning are developed in our carefully structured programme, which includes baking, climbing, running, construction, creating, singing, dancing and communicating. Literacy and numeracy skills are developed gradually using carefully structured programmes that progressively nurture self-confidence.
Our colourful classrooms are alive with the chatter of happy, busy children. We believe that we develop children who are physically, emotionally, spiritually and cognitively ready to face the challenges that lie ahead.
A visit to the Pre-Preparatory facility will allow prospective parents to see the qualitative differences between child-care and child minding, and provide a clear understanding of the importance of formal education in this age group.
Preparatory Phases
Junior Preparatory Phase
This phase strives to cater for the needs of all children by encouraging them to develop confidence and become well-balanced individuals. At this stage learning styles are developed so the pupils are allowed the opportunity to explore their full potential.
A mathematics curriculum from Singapore and the THRASS (reading, writing and spelling) programme form the basis of our curriculum. Each child is further extended by weekly visits to the music room, computer centre, library and physical education class. Outings to places of interest form a part of this integrated learning experience.
Parents are kept informed of their child's progress through regular meetings and reports. The school is well supported by therapists who offer occupational therapy, speech therapy, play therapy and remedial therapy.
Senior Preparatory Phase
In the Senior Preparatory Phase, children are introduced to specialist subject teaching. The staff are passionate about their individual subjects and ensure that lessons are stimulating and fun. The high academic standards and challenging targets exceed the requirements of the normal curriculum.
Class work is supplemented by relevant outings and homework. Each grade in the phase experiences the outdoors during the annual residential camp. Local tours and excursions also form part of the curriculum. Detailed reports are issued each term and parents also have regular opportunities to consult with teachers.
Activities
The school uses its facilites to ensure that the compulsory co-curricluar programme offers a suitable variety of sporting and cultural activies to the students in the summer and winter seasons.
These acativites include: athletics, cricket, hockey, netball, soccer, swimming, tennis, art club, chess, choir, crafts and drama.
