The Graduate School, Chiang Mai University ThailandGraduate study in Chiang Mai University started officially in 1974, ten years after the university was founded. The Graduate School was established in 1976 to coordinate with the various faculties in providing, and maintaining academic standard of graduate study in the university.
From the
first batch of graduate student population of 34 in the first four degree
programs in 1974, the university served more than 3,000 graduate students
in 1999 including about a hundred foreign students, in 123 degree programs
offered by 101 departments of 14 faculties and involving nearly 1,378
full-time teaching staff, of which more than 590 were Ph.D. holders.
The
university follows an interdisciplinary approach to education, offering
students flexibility in their choice of individual courses. The academic
year consists of two semesters each approximately fifteen weeks long. The
first semester runs from June to September and the second from November to
February. Summer session takes place from March to May.

developed a network of academic cooperation with many educational
institutions around the world including the countries of Australia,
Austria, Belgium, Canada, China, Finland, France, Germany, Japan, Hong
Kong, Korea, Nepal, Romania, Sweden, UK, USA and Social Republic of
