Study at Concordian International School ThailandConcordian International School
Thailand opened
in September 2001 at Thana City Country Club. Situated in a clean,
beautiful environment away from the noise and pollution of Bangkok city,
the school is housed in buildings which were formerly part of Thana City
Sport Centre. The location was totally modified and renovated by
architects, interior designers and landscape artists. The result is a
light, airy school in wonderfully stimulating, aesthetically-pleasing
surroundings, which enjoy all the sporting and recreational benefits of an
exclusive club. It is a
healthy, fresh environment where children can grow, explore and flourish.
The school provides an education from Nursery through Primary.
Commitment to language learning is the
hallmark of the school. We firmly believe an acquired fluency in more than
one language at an early age promotes the development of both linguistic
and cognitive skills. Students work in both English and Mandarin with the
Thai language, culture and traditions also being studied. Language immersion is recognized as the
most effective method of language teaching for students entering the
youngest grades. Classes are taught 40% in English, 40% in Mandarin and
20% in Thai, based on the knowledge that young children can readily learn
a second and third language. Through both organized and spontaneous
activities, children develop comprehension skills and then establish and
expand their working vocabulary. For the primary school grades the
curriculum is trilingual, where knowledge and skills are taught and
developed in the three languages of instruction.
Classes taught by a specialist teacher such as music or physical
education, may be conducted in any of the languages. The result is a
programme that allows children to become skilled and knowledgeable in
three languages, and able to use them with ease and confidence. The teaching staff at CIS are both
multinational and multi-lingual which creates an international 'feel' to
the school. All teachers are well qualified and are native speakers of
English, Mandarin or Thai. Mission
CIS promotes academic
excellence while nurturing young people to become moral and intellectual
leaders, people of dignity and integrity, building trust and understanding
in a complex world. This statement obligates us to:
-
achieve the highest standards in an
education programme which is enriched by its dual language teaching in
English and Chinese
-
have a tolerant, realistic approach
to life, respecting others' views, beliefs and cultures
-
strive to inspire
students to always act with honour and integrity and to work to make a
difference in the world in which we live, whatever their chosen role
as adults
Objective The pluralistic nature of communities with and
among nations, and the relationship between local and global concerns and
issues, are addressed through the study of the host society. In the case
of CIS this is through Thailand, through the students' own cultures, and
the cultures of people not directly represented in the school community.
At CIS we see the child, parent and teacher as partners in the learning
process. It is intended that Collaborative Assessment will encourage even
closer cooperation and collaboration of teachers towards one end, that of
knowing your child and ensuring that all their needs are met. Philosophy The CIS curriculum is based on the Primary Years
Program of the International Baccalaureate Organization (IBPYP). Schools
which participate commit themselves to the development of academic
standards at primary level which are as rigorous as anywhere in the world.
The philosophy of the Primary Years Program, as it directly affects
children, is expressed in a series of ten desirable attributes and traits.
Taken together these attributes and traits, listed below, create what the
IB call 'A Profile of PYP students':
