School Introduction

Torquay International School was founded in 1972 and since then we have been offering Courses in General English, English for Business and Cambridge and other Examination Courses to students and mature adults from all over the world.
The school is situated in the centre of Torquay, a beautiful seaside town on the English Riviera in South West England. Our school building is surrounded by gardens and a volley-ball court and we have 20 classrooms with comfortable seating, tables and modern facilities.
We have a wide range of accommodation, homestays, our own apartments and our own Hotel, Club TIS, across the road from the school.
The school and the hotel and apartments all offer free wireless internet as well as a computer centre.
We are accredited by the British Council, the top accreditation agency in Britain, members of English UK, IALC, the International Association of Language Centres, English UK South West (founder members and Business English UK.
We believe in quality courses and personal service for all our clients.

ESL Program Introduction

Our main specialities include General English Courses and these range from 15 hours per week with a maximum of only four per class to 18 or 23 hours per week with larger classes of up to 10 or 12 in July/August.
Our range of Business English courses are aimed at early-in-service business people and more mature and senior personnel. These are mostly short courses of 1, 2 or 3 weeks. These courses also include English for International Banking and Finance.
The Examination Courses fall at certain times of year and are for Cambridge Examinations such as FCE, CAE, CPE and BEC. Other courses include IELTS and TOEIC. Examinations are taken here in Torquay at regular intervals.
In addition to the above we have courses with English and leisure pursuits, such as English Plus Golf.
Our Social and Activities Programme is available every week and suits all age groups from 16 to 70. The majority of candidates at this school are 25+ and many are over 50.

Schedule & Fees

Our course begin usually on the first Monday of every year and there is continuous enrolment on every Monday throughout the year. There are no fixed dates but we are always closed over Christmas and the New Year and open over Easter.

Housing/Accommodation Info

We have a full-time accommodation manager who inspects all of our accommodation and makes placement for students according to their requirements. The Club TIS Hotel is opposite the school and the apartments are within 3 to 15 minutes on foot.
