Beginning with the 2011-12 school year, this age range will increase, building to the IB Diploma by 2014. ISL Surrey is part of the three-school ISL Group which provides individualised programmes for internationally-mobile students. The schools provide multi-cultural environments which embrace and respect cultural differences. ISL Surrey provides a student-centred and inquiry-based academic programme which values both independent and collaborative work. The school’s small class sizes and teacher-student ratio of 1:6 permits a high degree of individualisation, ensuring that each student is both supported and challenged, academically, physically and socio-emotionally. The school has consistently achieved outstanding Office for Standards in Education (OFSTED) reports and highest results in the Dutch national exams in three of the past five years. The school is inspected by OFSTED and holds accreditations through the International Primary Curriculum (IPC) and Stichting Nederlands Onderwijs Buitenlan (NOB). Although the language of instruction is English, home language literacy is supported from an early age. Beginning with the three-year-olds, five class periods of home language lessons are provided each week within the class day. Current home languages include: Arabic, Dutch, French, German, Italian, Japanese and Spanish. As necessary, English as an Additional Language is also provided. Students whose first language is English begin foreign language study at age three. The school is situated on a 10.3-acre campus. Its purpose-built facilities include an early childhood centre and a primary building with classrooms, gymnasium and stage, music room, kitchen, library, IT centre and a state-of-the-art science laboratory for Middle School students. In 2012, construction will begin on a new building housing 38 classrooms, science labs, offices, a 450-seat theatre, gymnasium, drama music and photo studios, library, dining room, offices and a design and technology workshop. Students are accepted throughout the school year through submission of an application and previous school records and the results of any standardised testing.
