Sherborne School International CollegeSherborne School International College is the international partner of Sherborne School which is one of the oldest British independent schools. The College exists to prepare pupils from other countries for admission to good independent schools in the UK. About 25 different nationalities are usually represented; all students are non-native speakers of English, and come to the College to achieve the entry requirements for good British schools. The International College is situated in Newell Grange, an attractive campus of modern buildings in the quiet country town of Sherborne, about 120 miles west of London. There is a regular direct train service to London. Boys and girls are accepted between 11 and 16 years. Younger pupils (11-13) prepare for the Common Entrance Examinations for entrance to Independent Schools; other pupils prepare for GCSE, and entrance to the Sixth Form (Advanced Level Courses) of British schools. Classes usually average six pupils, and the staff student ratio is 1:4. Courses last for one or two years depending on progress achieved. All members of the teaching staff take an active part in the sporting, pastoral and cultural life of the College and assist in maintaining close and caring standards of supervision. The purpose of the College is to act as a 'bridge' between school in the home country, and school in the UK. Most students remain for one or two years before taking the entry exams to British schools. Some students go on to Sherborne School or Sherborne Girls' School but in recent years students have gone to Winchester, Harrow, Westminster and to many other British schools. The College offers a complete placement service. The academic year commences in September, and consists of three terms with a three- or four-week break at Christmas and Easter. There is a strong programme of sporting activities, with extensive indoor and outdoor facilities. The College also organizes Intensive English Language courses in April, July and August. Enquiries and applications should be made to the Principal, but there is no official entrance examination, and students are welcomed from all races, nationalities and religions.
