Southbank International School - Hampstead Campus

Southbank International School was founded in 1979 by a group of British and American educators in order to provide a challenging academic environment for a culturally diverse community. Students receive tuition in core areas (English, mathematics, history, computing, science, foreign languages, physical education and the arts) and other electives. London - its people, museums, theatres - is used as an extension of the campus and the curriculum.

The campuses have pupils from 50 countries, and Southbank is noted for its friendly atmosphere. Southbank International School - Hampstead Campus was the first UK school to offer the International Baccalaureate curriculum to pupils of all ages. The IB Primary Years Programme is inquiry based and uses a cross-curricular approach. It includes the core subjects as well as German, computing, art, music and Suzuki violin. In the IB Middle Years Programme (Grades 6 to 10) French and design technology are added to the core subjects begun in the Primary School. The emphasis is on skills development and students are prepared for the IB Diploma Programme (Grades 11 and 12).

English is the language of instruction, but students may also study their native language; currently 18 languages are offered as first or second languages in the High School section. English as a Second Language is offered throughout the school. Pupils in middle and some high school years participate in a compulsory off-campus, residential programme. The school attracts well-qualified and internationally experienced teachers.

The Southbank International School - Hampstead Campus operates on a three-term basis from September to June. Holidays include mid-term breaks in October and February, a three-week winter break in December/January and a two-week spring break in March/April.

Southbank Hampstead (students aged 3-14) is housed in a purpose-built building with a library, an IT centre, science and technology laboratory with a dark room, as well as art and music rooms, a multi-purpose hall and a playground. The door-to-door bus service covers a wide area of central and north London. Admission is based on previous school records and satisfactory references, as well as suitability of the candidate for the curriculum offered. Pupils with special needs may be offered limited support and are evaluated for admission on an individual basis with consideration given to the needs of currently enrolled pupils.

For middle school students the future demands of the IB Diploma Programme are considered as a factor in admissions
