St Clare's OxfordSt Clare’s Oxford is a day and residential college. Founded in 1953, St Clare’s embraces internationalism and academic excellence as core values. The College is a registered charity with the aim of advancing international education and understanding. Students proceed to higher education within and outside the UK.Students from over 44 countries study at St Clare’s with a core group of British students. The atmosphere is informal and friendly, with an equal emphasis on hard work and developing personal responsibility; there is no uniform and students and staff address each other by first names. Each student has a Personal Tutor who oversees welfare and progress. The College is located in an attractive residential area one kilometre from Oxford City centre and occupies 27 large Victorian houses to which purpose-built facilities have been added. These include an outstanding library (over 35,000 volumes, Careers and Higher Education Information Centre and IT suite), four science laboratories, art and music studios, dining rooms and student café. Students live in College houses close to the central campus under the care of residential staff. Most students are enrolled for the full IB Diploma. St Clare’s has an especially wide range of subjects on offer – including 24 Language A1 options. The College also accepts a few transfer students in the middle of the IBDP. For students not ready to begin the IBDP directly, a one-year Preparatory IB course is offered (it is possible to join this course throughout the year). The College also runs an IB Institute, providing introductory, refresher and revision courses for students during the spring and summer holidays. St Clare’s is authorized to operate IB workshops for both new and experienced teachers. Additional courses, taught at a separate campus, include university-level Study Abroad courses, a one-year University Foundation Course and year-round English Language courses. There is an extensive programme of social, cultural and sporting activities and students are actively encouraged to take full advantage of the opportunities that Oxford provides. Within the spirit of internationalism, there are also strong links to local and overseas community projects. Entry is based on academic results, interview and confidential school report. There is a limited scholarship and bursary programme awarded competitively before entry.
