St Peter’s School of English: Supporting your success
St Peter’s School is a family-run, medium-sized school
where we have been teaching English to foreign students since 1966. We
have a friendly and supportive atmosphere and most of our staff have
been with us for many years and are very experienced.
St Peter's has been accredited by the British Council since 1972 and we are also
a member of English UK. The school is situated inside an attractive, period
building in the centre of the historic city of Canterbury, (pop 40,000).
We are just a few minutes' walk from the magnificent Cathedral and the city
centre with its shops, cafes and sites and from the medieval streets and their
often ancient buildings. In the evening students can go to the theatre or cinema
or relax in one of the many restaurants and pubs, or attend the regular social
evenings at the school. There are seven classrooms with use of DVD, video and
audio equipment. There is also an internet centre with free wi-fi where and nine
free broadband computers plus a library of audio visual materials where students
can listen to stories, practise listening comprehension and work on grammar and
vocabulary. At the top of the building there is a games room and a large beamed
sitting area with a small cafe bar, where students can meet their friends for a
cup of tea and a chat. During the summer months they can relax in the private,
beautiful, 18th-century walled garden available for staff and students.
Small class sizes give you a good opportunity to use your English and a chance
to make friends. We also understand that your experience outside the classroom
is very important to your learning. Canterbury is a city with a good cultural
heritage, and we can arrange homestay with local people so you can experience
English traditions.

A great location
Canterbury’s famous
cathedral is a world heritage site. The school is only a few minutes’ walk from
this beautiful building, in the heart of Canterbury’s historic conservation
area: the King’s Mile Precinct.
The school is on a quiet street less
than five minutes from the main shopping area of Canterbury where you can find
everything from designer stores to museums and cafes.
Excellent travel links
It is possible to walk from St
Peter’s to both of Canterbury’s stations, with a range of national and
international services. The city’s new, 68-mile high-speed rail link takes you
to central London in just one hour. Eurostar services to France are also
accessible from nearby Ashford, 20 minutes from Canterbury by train.
We are just 15 minutes from Dover by train, where ferry services operate to
France.
Local buses and national coaches run from a central bus
station ten minutes from the school.
Canterbury has good road and rail
links with the major UK airports and we offer an airport transfer service for St
Peter’s students.
Kent has its own independent airport based an hour
from Canterbury with specialist flights to Scotland and Europe – so you have
plenty of options to continue your journey after you finish your studies.
