The university opened on September 3, 1889 with a class of 90 students. The university offers over 400 undergraduate and graduate academic programs to students. There are more than 60 undergraduate majors in the liberal arts and professional and technical areas. Students are also offered the option of choosing from a variety of minors, certificates, teaching credentials and graduate programs. In the last decade, Cal State, Chico has consistently ranked among the Best Public Master's Level University in the West.
